You do not need to be certain it is OCD before you call.
OCD in plain language
OCD pairs unwanted, distressing thoughts (obsessions) with actions you feel you must take to cope (compulsions). It is a treatable anxiety-related condition, not a personality quirk.
Does this sound familiar?
I check locks, stoves, or messages again and again, even when I know I just did.
A disturbing thought pops up, and I cannot let it go.
I wash or clean until it feels right, and sometimes that takes a long time.
I ask people to tell me everything is fine, then need to ask again.
I replay conversations or events in my head looking for what I did wrong.
I avoid certain places, people, or topics because of a thought.
I have to do things in a certain order or number.
Rituals eat up time I want to spend on work, family, or fun.
If several of these fit, an assessment can tell you whether OCD is part of the picture. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988.
ERP, step by step
ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) is the core treatment for OCD at Salt City Mental Health. The idea is simple: face what triggers you and practice not doing the ritual.
The four parts of ERP
Learn your OCD cycle. You identify your triggers, obsessions, rituals, and avoidance.
Build a ladder. You and your therapist rank triggers from easiest to hardest.
Practice. You face one trigger at a time without the ritual, starting with what you can manage.
Keep going. You repeat the practice on your own, then review progress and plan for setbacks.

What your first appointment looks like
New clients do not print or bring any paperwork. After you request an appointment, you set up a secure online portal where you sign documents, schedule sessions, receive invoices, and pay.
Length: the initial assessment is 60 minutes.
What you will talk about: your history, your symptoms, what you have already tried, and what you want to change.
Arrival: appointments are not extended for late arrivals, so plan to arrive a few minutes early.
If you would like to talk before booking, call for a free 15-minute phone consultation.
