Finding a therapist who is both knowledgeable about treatment options and empathetic can be a challenge (to say the least!)  Dustin is both of those things and has helped me to further understand my diagnosis, and more importantly, provided effective tools and strategies for combatting it.  Dustin's laid back personality and use of humor created a relaxed setting for discussing treatment, as well as to receive necessary encouragement and support.

Have been meeting with Dustin weekly for 5 months for couples counseling / relationship work. It's been great. He's given a lot of reading materials and a little homework to practice in the evenings. He's helped my wife and I better navigate our discussions and interpret the meanings and feelings behind our words. He's great at offering ideas & suggestions, guiding us to discover new ways to successfully compromise with each other. Would highly recommend Dustin to others.

Our son who is 18 yrs old has an anxiety issue that we saw getting worse each year and to be honest I didn't know where to go with this or where to get help. I looked into books and website options but nothing was giving me much help. We found Dustin at Salt City Mental Health and WOW what a difference he has brought to our family! He worked with our son a couple times a week for 8 weeks and we saw a change and a huge difference from almost the first session. This was very hard for our son but our son put forth the effort to apply the skills Dustin taught him and our son has become a totally different and much better person. He has the tools to be successful and to work on his anxiety issues when they arise. This isn't a cure however Dustin has given him the tools to move forward with a more meaningful and productive social/work life. My family can't THANK Dustin enough for all he did to help our son and our family. Dustin personally cares for his clients and gave true honest feedback and never made our son feel uneasy or uncomfortable. We highly recommend working with Dustin and feel he is part of our family forever!

Dustin saved me from a very bad place. After suffering with Generalized Anxiety Disorder for 10 years, I thought I had all the "tricks" and "tools" to treat my anxiety, but when my anxiety spiraled out of control this summer, I knew I needed help. Dustin came highly recommended. He helped me pinpoint my anxiety down to a tee. Although it was a hard process that involved turning and facing my fears instead of escaping and running from them, it has been life changing. He has taught me a new way to approach GAD and how to not only respond when you have anxiety, but how to help diminish the anxiety from happening in the first place. I felt entirely comfortable talking to Dustin and can't thank him enough for the difference he has made to my everyday life. I can't recommend him enough when it comes to treating GAD. Thanks Dustin!

Common Treatment Approaches

Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
Research has shown that couples who engage in treatment utilizing EFT can experience a 70% recovery rate from relationship distress, and an overall 90% increase in relationship satisfaction. The scope of EFT is to improve intimacy and emotional attachment when used in couples and family counseling.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Research has found that a persons distorted thinking influences their perception and reaction to a situation. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy provides skills to modify such dysfunctional thinking.  CBT is an evidence based treatment that has been shown to provide a lasting pattern of increased mood and function in individual, couples, and family counseling.
The Gottman Method
The Gottman Method is a research based approach to increasing respect, intimacy, affection with your partner. This method provides a couple with skills to manage conflict, break ineffective fighting patterns, and turn toward your partner in a way that protects the relationship. The Gottman Method is proven to be efficacious in couples counseling.
Bowen Family Systems Theory
The Family Systems Theory is a theory of human behavior that views the family as an emotional unit and uses the systems thinking to describe the complex interactions in the unit. The members of a family have a natural intense emotional connection. When the Family Systems Theory is applied in family counseling, the members of the relationship are protected through cohesiveness and cooperation.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Exposure and Response Prevention is  research based treatment for anxiety disorders such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Phobia, Panic Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and other phobias. ERP is designed to help an individual tolerate a perceived threat, and provide that individual with an ability to effectively manage the distress caused by the falsified danger. This is a behavioral approach, in individual therapy,  that results in an ability to choose for oneself how to respond when provoked by anxiety. Dustin Hall is one of the few counselors in Bountiful, Utah who specializes in the use of ERP for anxiety  disorders.
Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectic Behavioral Therapy provides therapeutic skills in four key areas: emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and assertiveness.  These skills allow individuals to manage painful emotions and decrease relationship conflict. This treatment can be applied in individual, couples, and family therapy. Dustin Hall is a counselor in Bountiful, Utah who DBT.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an empirically-based treatment designed to increase psychological flexibility by teaching an individual to incorporate commitment, mindfulness, behavioral-change, and acceptance strategies into their daily lives. ACT can be applied in individual, couples, and family counseling.
